Word Up

You may have heard of the trend to “pick a word for the year” instead of setting New Year's resolutions.

The idea has been around for awhile...I wrote about it last year too! It’s less overwhelming than making a list of resolutions or a whole “creative" vision board, but it’s still a great way to give you focus and direction for the year.

The idea is to pick ONE WORD that will be your theme for the year. One word that encapsulates your health and weight aspirations for 2024. Think of it as your personal mission statement.

How to Get Started?

Sit down and start writing as many words as you can think of that describe how you want to FEEL throughout 2024. Write down anything that comes to mind.

Review your whole list and notice which word seems to call to you. THAT’S your word!

Your word should make you feel like the rockstar of your own life. Imagine strutting into the gym with "Unstoppable" as your anthem. Then the treadmill isn't a torture device; it's your personal runway!

Perhaps your word is:

• Flexible

Imagine what it would be like to attend a social event and know that even if you can’t have your usual perfect daily menu, you can still make a reasonable choice and feel good about it!

What would your life be like if you lead with words like:

• Mindful
• Resilient
• Slow-down
• Kind

How about starting each day with an attitude of Gratitude? Wouldn’t it be easier to see all the successes you’ve achieved? Do you think it would help you stay positive and stay on course?

How about:

• Positive
• Courageous
• Confident

Consider One of My Favs:

•Better

Being “better” each day will get you much further than trying to be “best” or “perfect.”

An Alternative

If word of the YEAR seems like an overwhelming amount of time to keep up with, consider:

• Word of the day
• Word of the week
• Word of the month

Feel free to change your mantra daily, weekly, or monthly. Simply take the time at your planned intervals to pick a word, write it down, and do your best to keep the word in mind as you make your daily choices.

Give it a try! Jump on the “word” bandwagon. Give your journey a fresh twist with one WORD…daily, weekly, monthly, or one for the whole year!
