Tiny Tummy Tips, Issue #021 -- Celebrate and Track Non-Scale Victories

In This Issue

1) What is a Non-Scale Victory?
2) Celebrating Holiday Non-Scale Victories
3) A Heartfelt Thank You

The holidays are in full swing as we speak, so I felt it especially important to talk about non-scale victories.

Because being healthy isn’t just about the weight you lose, it’s about the life you gain!

Gaining weight and/or not being able to lose any weight over the holiday season is usually a major source of stress. If you're only focused on the numbers on the scale, you might get frustrated or upset at your (perceived) lack of progress.

That's where non-scale victories come in. They make a huge difference.

What is a Non-Scale Victory?

In case you don’t already know, non-scale victories, or “NSVs” are positive outcomes you enjoy as a result of positive diet and lifestyle changes. They have nothing to do with the scale.

NSVs can be any noticeable change along your weight loss journey, such as:

•Having more energy
•Sleeping better
•Learning new recipes
•Feeling more self-confident
•Noticing your clothes are looser

The Benefit:

When you notice the inner and outer changes you’ve made, you’re more likely to stay motivated for the long haul.

Celebrating Holiday Non-Scale Victories

Try stepping off the scale over the next couple of weeks. Celebrate the holiday season in a new way by celebrating your non scale progress.

Lift your spirit and reinforce your resolve by paying special attention to all your holiday related non-scale victories. For example:

•Saying no to social pressures to eat or drink
•Eating a serving of dessert without binging
•Minimizing emotional eating
•Not going to parties overly hungry

Or

•Not giving in to cravings
•Serving a new healthy version of a past favorite holiday dish
•Bringing a healthy dish to a holiday party
•Saying no to taking leftovers home

Look around. Acknowledge every single non scale victory, no matter how large or small. Celebrate them. Celebrate. Celebrate. And keep celebrating ;)

The Takehome

The number on the scale isn’t as valuable as you think. It’s simply a snapshot of one moment in time.

You can get a truer picture of your progress by recognizing the diet and lifestyle changes you make day to day, week to week, month to month. Those changes amount to much more than the number you call your weight.

Keep going. You’ve got this!
